- בָּעַטII (b. h.; √בע, akin to בץ, בט) to trample, strike, kick. Y.Yoma VIII, 45b top בְּעָטָתוֹ פרדה a mule kicked him. Ex. R. s. 30 ב׳ בפילקי knocked against the prison door (burst it open). Ab. Zar. IV, 8 גת בְּעוּטָה a wine press packed with stamped grapes.Trnsf. (with ב) to resist, reject. Sabb.104a, v. אח״ס. Pi. בִּיעֵט same. B. Kam.II, 1. היתה מְבָעֶטֶת if the animal kicked. Ber.32a; a. e.Trnsf. to kick against, rebel, be contumacious. Sot.22a Y.Ber.IX, 14b bot., a. e. מְבָעֵט בייסורין bearing suffering with contumacy (instead of showing repentance). Pesik. R. s. 47; Yalk. Job 908 התחיל מב׳ (sub. בייסורין) began to he contumacious (challenging the Lord).
